Policies & Procedures for Intakes & Fosters
Intakes:
- Owner surrenders who are fully vetted & healthy can go into “general population” and must be held at minimum of 7 days at the Lounge before they can go home. (They can be put on hold)
- Owner surrenders who are fully vetted but showing signs of illness or have unknown behavioral patterns must go into foster for 7 days or until illness is cleared up.
- Unvetted intakes must go into foster and held for 14 days and then they will get put on the clinic list for the next available clinic date. Once they are S/N, vaccinated, and combo tested at clinic, they can go into “general population” as long as they are healthy. They can be adopted normally and will not need the 7 day hold at the Lounge since they were held in foster.
- Intakes from other rescues should be already S/N, vaccinated, and combo tested if age appropriate, barring certain circumstances pre-approved by Christa.
- Intake requests from current fosters (for cats currently not under Kitty Queen care) must be approved by Christa. Approval will be based upon space, budget, and medical needs. Cats will need to be held at the approved adopter’s house until next available clinic.
- Foster cats/kittens that have not been to the clinic yet must be kept separate from resident cats & other non-KQ cats at the foster home.
- Kitty Queen Spay/Neuter clinics are held 2x a month. A post will be put up on the Facebook Volunteer Group reminding fosters of the next available clinic. Fosters who have cats ready to be vetted can sign up for a clinic spot at that time.
- Please make sure our foster kitties are treated with tons of love & gentleness, and receive daily care. Their space (whether it is a crate, small room, or large open area) needs to be clean & sanitary, then disinfected between uses.
- When a foster cat is ready (healthy, socialized, and fully vetted) to go to the Lounge, a drop-off time must be scheduled and approved to ensure we have space available in Lounge.
- Cats & kittens that have met the requirements for intake quarantine / intake protocols can go with approval from Christa.
- Cats must be pulled for a “cage break” after 14 days. They must have at least one week off, and then can return to PetSmart.
- Adopters who have been approved may place a temporary “hold” on a cat or cats. The hold is good for 7 days.
- Cats are first come, first serve basis and potential adopters must fill out an application and be approved before they can place a hold on a cat.
